My name is John Breivogel. I provide counseling services for individuals in Salem, OR and surrounding areas, offering both virtual and in-person options.

My goal is to connect with clients at their current emotional state, offering empathy and compassion, while simultaneously offering motivation and support. You are the one that knows you best, and I strive to help you learn how to best engage with the self and utilize that knowledge. I aspire to help individuals learn to identify emotional and behavioral patterns that may be hindering a fulfilling life. I utilize various therapeutic approaches including Person-Centered Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Adjustment Therapy. I have a specific focus on Adjustment Therapy for Individuals with a new or existing disability.

Disability Adjustment
My adjustment to disability approach is built over my 15-year career working with individuals with disabilities to cope with changes and overcome perceived and/or real limitations. As a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC), I pull from my experience in rehabilitation counseling to support the adjustment process. I believe that in order to thrive we must be willing to confront all aspects of life, including desires, fear, grief, loss, anxiety, and loneliness.

Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Psychology

Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling from Western Oregon University

Major coursework has included: Professional Counseling and Ethical Practice, Disability and Adjustment Counseling, Social and Cultural Foundations of Counseling, Addictions Counseling, Psychopharmacology, Human Growth and Development, Theory and Techniques of Counseling, Group Counseling and Group Work, and Diagnosis/Treatment Planning of Mental Health Disorders.
